The last time I blogged (before the post about Carole), I was getting ready to spend the entire weekend in my sewing room. And I did. And I spent most of last week in there with Carole as well as most of this past weekend as it was very soothing for my raw emotions. And here's what I got accomplished.........
This is my log cabin quilt. It's just a little over half-way finished. It will measure 95 x 95 when it's done. And that may be a while. Sometime after Christmas. Why? Well because after I got this much done, I kinda got burned out on log cabining and switched gears ....
I felt the need to engage myself in some hand embroidery, so I began work on this lovely baby daygown. The pattern is "French Daygown" from Grandmother's Hope Chest by Martha Pullen. The fabric is some lovely Victorian batiste. I embroidered old fashioned double featherstitch (from Jeannie Baumeister's book) along the pintucks in a cream colored thread to match the batiste and placed a bullion rosebud at the base of each row of pintuck/featherstitching. Then in the center I used a monogram motif found in the same book as the daygown pattern. I am getting ready to set in the sleeves and that is something that I hate doing simply because I need the practice to do it well, and so I also look forward to doing it. I guess that's what you call mixed emotions! Then I will put on the button plackets for the buttonholes and buttons, put bias facing around the neck, hem it and be done! I will keep you posted. It will take another week or so because I also am thinking about some more embroidery down the plackets and around the hem. Did I say I love to embroider?
So, what are you up to?

Crossing Over the Rainbow Bridge............
This has been a really rough week for me. You see, I had to have my sweet angel put down. She had cancer. My baby Carole. My sewing buddy. And I miss her so very much. There is so much I could say about Carole, but it hurts so much. Please just give me a little more time to say goodbye. I promise I won't be long.........

No, I haven't been a slacker!
I've just been too busy to post! I've been getting my house and yard ready for winter ....... There was much leaf raking and leaf blowing and leaf piling, and throwing useless junk out. I'm sure you know the drill. I'm glad that job is over.
And to that end, I had to show you this little maple tree. We had to cut down it's mamma 2 winters ago after a horrible ice storm all but brought it down. This was an offshoot of that tree that we planted here a couple of years before that. I always thought the mamma tree was one of the prettiest maple trees in town. It was big and in the fall for about 2 weeks it was SPECTACULAR! I see baby tree is going to follow in mamma's footsteps when it gets a little bigger.
Also, there has been a lot of sewing going on ..................
Notice my little buddy back there supervising. And let me introduce you to this one.......
No this is not Alison, but it is her sister, Carole. Carole is a fat little beagle. She and Alison will fight over this chair and the looser will stand there looking up at the winner and bark and fuss until you make her go find another chair to sit in. Just like children, I'll tell you!
This weekend I have big plans! I'm going to start a new quilt project. I love sewing quilt tops. I love piecing them. I love quilting them. And I love sleeping under them. This one is going to be a log cabin. I took my big bag O scraps and cut what could be cut into strips. I have all the strips ironed and ready to go. I can't wait. I will keep you posted. Until next time, have a good weekend!

And Sew It Begins.............
I've been working on setting this blog up for a couple of months. I'd work a little bit and then let it lie. Then work a little bit more and add some stuff, and then set it aside. I really was scared to really get going with it, but I have finally decided that now is the time for me to really make an effort to get this bloggy thing going, so ready or not............. HERE I AM! So, I really need to let all you folks out there in bloggy land know who I am. I am Prissy and I spend at least a couple of hours every day in my sewing room...... sewing. This is a picture of where most of the action takes place. I love to sew. It isn't in this picture, but I now have a basket sitting behind my sewing machine .......... see where those cones of thread are in the picture? Yes, right there ..... and that is where my kitty Munchkin sits, or lays and naps while I sew. Sometimes little mister lazy kitty will hang his head over the side of the basket and watch. He is my faithful sewing buddy. Oh and I must not forget this one .....
This little angel is Alison, another faithful companion. You'll find her here in this chair which sits next to my sewing machine. We have a real fun time, me my dog and my cat companions! Together we do a little quilting and a little heirloom sewing and then just a little plain old sewing. We have set up a little Etsy store front and between the 3 of us, we try to put a few nice little goodies in it for sale. You know, just to show hubby that we aren't just holed up in the sewing room having fun ........ we are being PRODUCTIVE!
I do hope you will visit us here often here in the sewing room. We will have such fun!
Hugs, Prissy
